See the best of Skye in one Day
Our Intensive Isle of Skye Tour is designed for travellers who want to experience as much of the island as possible in just one day. Whether you’re visiting from a cruise ship or only have a short window of time to explore, this tour packs in all the highlights — and a few hidden gems too!

Meet Your Team
Finella – Your Local Guide
A Highlander through and through, Finella grew up in a small village in the Highlands and brings a wealth of local knowledge, stories, and insight to every tour. When she’s not guiding, she’s off on her own adventures—seeking out hidden gems to share with future guests and adding a personal touch to every journey.

Michelle – Your Driver
Originally from just outside Glasgow, Michelle now calls Inverness home. She fell in love with the Highlands years ago and never looked back. When she’s not behind the wheel helping guests discover the wild beauty of Skye, she volunteers with the local lifeboat team — always ready to lend a hand on land or sea!

About Tartan Trailblazer Tours
Tartan Trailblazer Tours was founded by Fin and Michelle, two ladies with a shared passion for showing off the best of Scotland.
In 2020, during lockdown, they launched a travel blog to inspire future visitors. As their following grew, they began helping people plan itineraries, book accommodations, and finding hidden gems across Scotland.
In 2023, they took the plunge and bought a minibus — and in 2024, after a year of training and exams, Tartan Trailblazer Tours was born!

Where to meet for our Isle of Skye Tour
Group Tours:
We begin at the Bayfield Car Park in Portree, right beside the water front. Look for the steps down from the road to the car park — we’ll be there 15 minutes before departure to greet you.
Private Tours:
We can start and finish from anywhere on the island. Just let us know your location and we’ll be there.
Itinerary – Full-Day Skye Tour
This tour typically runs from 9am-5pm
Dinosaur Footprints – An Corran Beach
Walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs at this unique beach. We time our visit for low tide to give you the best chance of spotting the dinosaur prints — and if they’re covered in seaweed, don’t worry, Fin knows where to look!
🕒 20 minutes

The Quiraing
One of the most iconic landscapes in Scotland, the Quiraing is like something out of a fantasy film — winding roads, and dramatic views sculpted by a massive ancient landslide. The road up is steep and single-track, but don’t worry — Michelle’s got it covered! She’s a pro at Highland driving, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery!
🕒 20 minutes

Quick Break + Scottish Snacks
Time to stretch your legs, visit the loo, and try some local favourites:
Tunnock’s Tea Cake or Wafer
Irn Bru – Scotland’s beloved soft drink

Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls
Kilt Rock gets its name from the striking basalt cliffs that resemble the pleats and patterns of a traditional Scottish tartan kilt. Nearby, the Mealt Falls cascade dramatically from Loch Mealt down onto the rocks below, creating a spectacular curtain of water that crashes into the sea. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a bagpiper performing here, adding a truly magical and quintessentially Scottish soundtrack to this breathtaking spot.
🕒 20 minutes

Lealt Falls
An often-overlooked gem with modern viewing platforms and stunning views over the Sound of Raasay. The platform offers a perfect vantage point to admire the rushing waterfall and the sparkling sea beyond, making it a peaceful spot to pause and take in the natural beauty of Skye’s rugged coastline.
🕒 10 minutes

Old Man of Storr (Photo Stop)
The hike to the Old Man of Storr is a challenging trek that takes several hours, so we won’t be tackling it on this tour. Instead, we’ll stop at one of the best roadside vantage points where you can capture stunning photos of this iconic pinnacle. According to local legend, the Old Man of Storr is the thumb of a giant who was buried beneath the earth after a fierce battle.
🕒 10 minutes

Lunch in Portree
We’ll stop for lunch in the colourful harbour town of Portree, the largest settlement on Skye and full of charm. You’ll have around 45 minutes to explore, grab a bite to eat, and maybe pick up a souvenir or two.
Fin will be on hand to recommend some great local spots for lunch — whether you fancy a traditional fish and chips by the sea, a cosy pub meal, or a sandwich from a local cafe.
There are also plenty of photo opportunities down by the harbour with its iconic painted houses, or you can take a short stroll up to “The Lump” for a panoramic view over the bay. If shopping’s more your thing, Portree has a range of lovely gift shops and even a quirky little thrift store to browse.

Afternoon Highlights
Sligachan Old Bridge
Steeped in folklore – legend says if you dip your face in the waters beneath the bridge, you’ll be granted eternal beauty and youth. Why not give it a go?
🕒 20 minutes

Fairy Pools
One of the most loved stops on the tour, the Fairy Pools are a series of crystal-clear waterfalls and blue-green pools at the foot of the Black Cuillin.

We allow 90 minutes here — enough time for the scenic walk there and back, plus plenty of time to soak in the magic, take photos, and maybe even dip your toes in the refreshingly cool water.

Not up for the walk? No problem — Michelle will take you on a relaxing alternative mini-tour to Glen Brittle Beach and a peaceful local waterfall just by the roadside, so you can still enjoy the beauty of the area without the hike.

Bonus Stop
If time allows, we love to include an extra stop or two along the way. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to spot Highland cows during the tour — and if we can find a safe place to pull over, we’ll happily make a bonus stop so you can meet these iconic shaggy locals up close and snap a few photos. It’s all part of the adventure!

Return to Portree
We’ll have you back in Portree by 5:00 PM for our group tours.
On the way back, enjoy another bottle of water or Irn bru and a final Scottish snack – you’ll have earned it after all that exploring!
More Than Just a Tour
Between stops, Fin will share fascinating stories about the island, its nature, people, and culture. You’ll also hear music from local artists, with insights into the meaning behind the songs. We welcome questions throughout the day – it’s your experience, and we want it to be unforgettable.

Customise Your Private Tour
For private tours, we tailor the itinerary to suit your group’s interests and pace. Our mini bus can take private groups up to 12 passengers. We can include extra stops like:
Talisker Distillery — perfect for whisky lovers
The enchanting Fairy Glen
Dunvegan Castle (home of the MacLeod clan)
Duntulm Castle — said to be the most haunted castle on Skye
Coral Beach — with its stunning white sands and turquoise waters
Just let us know what you’d like to see, and we’ll create a truly unique Skye experience just for you!
